The Age Gap trope has always been my favourite, it’s one that I gravitate towards. This book however disappointed me. While it was well written with an intriguing storyline, I really struggled with the fast pace of the story. I did not have time to get to know the characters. I could understand the motivation behind actions but felt like there was not enough time to flesh out the events and absorb the consequences of the actions.
It was a decent book, very low steam. I will say that I did finish it in about 3 hours which is a testament to the fact that it was not bad, just not my favourite.

I tried very hard to like this book. I eventually had to throw in the towel.
This read like a story that would be found on Wattpad, which is fine if that is what you enjoy and are looking for when picking up your books. Personally, it just doesn’t work for me.
While I think the premise of the story is a good one, I feel that it was executed poorly. The story moved way too fast, and we are given very little explanation or backstory on either of the main characters. The plot was all over the place, with too much drama being thrown at us from too many directions. The dialog was mediocre at best and seemed more like a bunch of high schoolers talking to each other rather than adults.
The female main character is an auditor, which is amazing, but when it came to the dialogue around her work, I think the author tried too hard to force her intelligence.
All the characters lacked development and fell flat for me.
Just because I did not enjoy this book doesn’t mean that others don’t, and I hope they do.
I look forward to seeing what else Ms. Barnett has to share with us in the future.

The primary issue that overshadowed the narrative was the author’s inconsistent tone and questionable word choices, creating an awkward and disconnected atmosphere. Additionally, the author’s word choices often felt forced and, at times, pretentious, making it challenging to fully engage with the story. A more thoughtful approach to tone and word selection could significantly enhance the overall reading experience.
